Data Privacy Day

We are pleased to be getting involved with Data Privacy Day which is held on 28th January every year. It really is a global effort to generate awareness about the importance of privacy, highlights easy ways to protect personal information and reminds organisations that privacy is good for business.

Today is a good day to remind yourself that your data and your client’s data should be private. Since the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) came into place, many companies have been better at protecting data, and that is a good thing, however there is no harm in having a reminder every now and then. The Information Commissioners Office has a plethora of information should you need an update. We thoroughly recommend that you have a GDPR champion within your business to ensure that all staff are on the same page.

At Techrelate we take our clients data seriously, with regular secure backups, Multi Factor Authentication, and down to earth cyber security guidance, we ensure that your data does not get exposed to those who may use it with intent.

Data Privacy Day might also be a good time to look through your files on your computer or mailbox and decide if they are all still needed or those clients are still currents. Those old spreadsheets, those old letters, that quote you didn’t use, maybe it’s time for a clear out.

Alongside this, check that your staff access rights are up to date to ensure only those that need access to files, have it. This takes the pain and the risk away from data being in the wrong hands. We aren’t saying that staff would use data maliciously, but you are better to be safe than sorry. How easy might it be for one of your team to copy a considerable amount of valuable business information to USB and walk out?

As today is Data Privacy Day we would like to remind you that we are ISO 27001 compliant which although is not mandatory, we believe it is essential to ensure the security of our own and our client’s data.
