At techrelate we believe in growing in all directions, we believe that a good team is made up of a different mix of people with different skills, abilities and ambitions. Our staff retention is above 90 per cent which is testament to the way we work.
We employed our first apprentice in 2014, we are committed to the development of younger people in technology and the benefits that loyalty and teaching brings to our service, having started their career with us we are able to avoid the bad habits they may learn elsewhere.
In 2018 we started working with LDN Apprenticeships to offer apprenticeship schemes to Londoners who want to gain experience in a tech company whilst getting paid.
We have one full time apprenticeship at the moment and have just advertised for two more. We will be introducing the newest members of the team in due course. One of our IT Support Apprentices shares insights on their IT Support Engineer placement to date…
Starting in Autumn 2018, I embarked on my apprenticeship at techrelate. I always had an interest in IT and I wanted to do an apprenticeship so that I could expand my IT knowledge as well as getting paid and get real experience of working in an IT company.
I studied Computer Science in secondary school which, a) gave me an interest in IT and b) a good knowledge to work from. Before starting with techrelate, I had a good basic knowledge of IT hardware and software and as such I started on Level 3 straight away.
The experience that I have gained to date has been invaluable. I am on my Level 4 of the IT Support Engineer Apprenticeship which means that for the next 18-months I will be working towards finishing this level and submit assignments and grow my IT knowledge whilst getting firsthand experience of how an IT company operates.
The best thing about my apprenticeship with techrelate is that the team is made up of various IT specialists. Each day I learn something new or can help the team with an issue. It is rewarding. If I am stuck on a specific question for an assignment, my colleagues always give me time to explain an issue. For example, implementing a Variable Length Subnet Mask … this is where the network administrator divides IP addresses across a network. I am now a pro at this!
I get monthly assignments for my apprenticeship and I am expected to research current IT issues to ensure I am up to date. This helps when I am working on the helpdesk as I can often answer client’s questions.
techrelate allow 20 per cent of my week to be dedicated to my apprenticeship which includes research, writing and submission of assignments. I am really grateful for the opportunity.
IT certificates are expensive and time consuming, however an apprenticeship has allowed me to grow my knowledge in the tech world, get experience and get paid for a job I love. Some assignments need a lot of research and sometimes I find that assignments do not come into play at work but overall my apprenticeship scheme has been brilliant.
I feel a valued member of the team, I enjoy my job and I encourage others to follow the apprenticeship route.
