Cyber security and the future of work

Remote working and online communications have become normal. The spread of Covid has meant that the office will never be the same again. Who would have thought about hand sanitizer at every corner, and not going to your colleagues desk to look at an email or project would be the new normal. We’ve gone from company in the office to isolation at home. This is where the tech comes in. Internet usage has increased by 50% since lockdown started. We are heavily reliant on technology now – whether that is to work, see friends via zoom or MS teams and use online banking.

We have all adapted (some quicker than others) to this new way of working and living. We have learnt to work by ourselves but using technology to meet, network and create new ideas. Our teams and systems have had to change. Rather than going back to the old ways, we all have to build a future that is better than the one we had before. This doesn’t just apply for technology but also for our environment and out of work habits.

Technology has enabled many of us to continue working and school children to continue learning. We work remotely now. We rely on virtual Private Network (VPN’s) to secure the access to our servers and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to keep connections to our services secure. We rely on delivery companies for our lunch. Who hasn’t used Deliveroo since lockdown started?  There will be a rise in technology demands going forward which means we have to build resilience into our systems and that we will become more reliant on digital tools.

As thnew ‘normal’ approaches alongside our technology dependency, tech systems will become targets, and we as a tech company need to work even closer with the tech community to ensure systems are not left vulnerable

Cloud based VPN and cloud computing services are increasing to ensure that businesses can always access their information. It offers more services and is more flexible than the traditional hardware solutions.

Research shows that cyber attacks are increasing across all businesses, not just the large companies. IT security is vital, it always has been, but it needs to keep up to speed with the bots that are attacking software, servers and networks

Spear fishing attacks will become more sophisticated targeting both people and businesses.  Risk registers are more important than ever to ensure the tech requirements of a business are not compromised. If they weren’t before, IT teams are now holding businesses together.

As this dependency on Tech is likely to continue, we at Techrelate want to ensure that your business adapts with the changing times and is not left vulnerable to security attacks. We have updated our suite of SafetyNET Services to protect your network and your people – wherever they are. As we move further away from a central hub to workit’s more important than ever, that every member of staff is able to access documents and systems securely whilst working remotely. If you would like to know more about how our SafetyNET@Home Service can support your business through this transition, please get in touch by emailing Help@techrelate.co.uk.

The future isn’t set, but in the tech world we know that cyber security will need to up its game. Protect your data and your business with all you’ve got.
