Microsoft Licensing Changes

Upcoming Microsoft Licensing Changes

Earlier this year Microsoft announced changes to their product suite. This will see an increase in prices across their services.

Microsoft has made the decision to align the GBP price to the dollar. This means that the price will now be determined by how the pound sits compared to the dollar. As the exchange rate fluctuates, so will the price. For our clients, these increases will come into play from 3rd of April and are expected to be 9 or 10% on current pricing. This will be reviewed ongoing by Microsoft and could result in further increases/decreases over 6-month instalments, so we are expecting to see another change in October/November time this year.

Going forward, there is the option of either an annual or monthly subscription for Microsoft services. If you are currently on a monthly subscription and move to an annual subscription then this will reduce the price and lock the reduced price for 12 months – ie avoid any price changes that occur within the subscription commitment. This does mean that you will be tied into at least your current license count for the 12-month period. No decreases in license count or downgrades of products are permitted in this time. You can however increase license numbers as you bring on new starters and their license will be brought in line with your existing annual subscription.

Alternatively, if you remain on a monthly subscription, you will be able to downgrade products or decrease license counts, however, the price will not be protected, and there will be price changes coming into effect on a more regular occurrence.
