Introducing the speed demon Lenovo v14

One of our team reviews the recent Lenovo v14, i5, 8gb with 256gb ssd.

I had ordered a new laptop but I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to my old one. Yes, my old Lenovo Thinkpad e335 it took nearly 3-minutes to turn on and access a page on the internet, but I loved it, I’d loved it for nearly 10-years. My new Lenovo v14 arrived in a slim box through the courier. I wasn’t quite sure if I should open it … what if I have to give up my old laptop?

I opened the box, a beautiful, new, iron grey laptop greeted me. It is lightweight and slim and has no paint on it like my old one. I turned it on, and boy its fast. I was surprised to how efficient a laptop can be. I was on the internet sharpish. I took a time-lapse of the two laptops turning on side by side … how did I live with my old Lenovo for so long?

Once I’d set up my password on the laptop, I set up my email accounts, all in one place which is something that the old one could not do. Poor thing! I opened Lastpass which is my password manager and got all the accounts up that I wanted to save i.e. sharepoint, wordpress etc so that logging on is a breeze. My old laptop was s l o w with this process, sometimes I was waiting minutes for the page to load. I did get used to how slow it was and would turn the laptop on, put the kettle on, come back, put my password in, go do something else. I was usually online and on the websites I wanted within 5-minutes. Ha. This new beast is super-fast with 256GB SSD. I think I’m in love.

My first and only errrrghhhh moment was the automatic connection to Bing as a search engine. Really, who uses that?! Do people actually use it? Why? I soon changed my default search engine by following edge://settings/searchEngines and set up my laptop to use Ecosia who plant trees for every search you do. The Ecosia servers are also run on renewables. Much better for the planet.

My new toy / work thing has all the usual kit on it starting with Windows 10 Pro which runs like a dream. I like this new laptop and the questions it asks me; do you want to set up office 365? Yes! Do you want to set up your OneDrive? Yes! Do you want to remember your passwords? No!

The colour and clarity of the screen is great, images stand out and the speakers work a dream. The power button is on the other side to my old Lenovo which causes me to press it when I want to delete something. Thankfully this laptop doesn’t take any notice of my slight of hand and stays on. My little finger will find the delete button eventually.

My old laptop is looking very sorry for itself on the floor. I’ll remove all the data from it and wipe it ready for a new home.

If you are looking for an upgrade and want a fast, reliable piece of kit. This laptop is for you. Oh and you can use it in ‘tablet mode’ too. Winning! Contact us to find out more.
