Economies Of Scale
The larger a company is the easier it is to generate economies of scale. Cloud computing gives small organisations access to these economies of scale that are provided by the cloud hosting provider.
Reliability
Reliability in the cloud is often superior to that a small organisation can afford to provide for yourself. Cloud providers spend a lot of time and money on ensuring that the service is reliable as they live and die by it, and it gets noticed when they have any outages. By contrast a small organisation will try to keep any internal system outages quiet, and can’t afford the level of expertise to ensure they are kept running.
Security
Security is often sited as a reason to keep away from the cloud and whilst there have been issues with security in the cloud there are also many problems with security in a locally run system, they just don’t get the same attention. In fact cloud service providers are very focused on ensuring there system is secure.
Functionality
Functionality provided by a cloud provision is often superior to that available within an internal IT system because the cloud provider is constantly enhancing the product offering to compete with competition and upgrades are provided across all the cloud providers customers.
Financial
Financially the setup cost of a cloud service is very low in comparison with an internal system. There is no requirement for expensive hardware, and often the service is based upon a pay as you go model. For small organisations this ability to spread the cost is massively beneficial.
