News about Windows 10 is in all the technology sections and as we get closer to the release date of the 29th of July will only get more frequent.  So what should you expect for your business and what should you do?

What to expect from Windows 10?

Previews of Windows 10 are looking great, and the operating system is hoping to reduce some of the difficulties that people had with Windows 8 and looks to be a better performer than Windows 7.  Depending on your version of windows your computer may start prompting you to download your copy of Windows 10 now.

Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

The normal principal about Windows Upgrades is that you shouldn’t upgrade straight away still applies to Windows 10. At this stage pre release versions of Windows 10 are looking great, but there could  be issues with any less popular previously installed software and not all computers hardware will be fully supported.  So TechRelate would recommend that you hold off upgrading until any initial issues have been resolved, or unless you have a pressing business reason to upgrade. If you need any assistance holding off your or your staff’s upgrades until you can be sure there will be no loss to  business continuity, please contact TechRelate – our contact details are at the bottom of this article.

You may have heard that Microsoft are offering an upgrade to Windows 10 for free for the first year, and surely you’d want to take advantage of that.  This tends to apply to the consumer versions of Windows 10, and therefore doesn’t really impact your businesses decision to upgrade or not.  If you aren’t sure if your version of Windows will be entitled to a free upgrade then book a Microsoft licensing review for your business now.

If your computer has been prompting you to upgrade it doesn’t matter if you have clicked to reserve your copy of Windows 10, your computer will prompt you before starting any upgrade.  If you think you want to upgrade straight away, please ensure you have backed up all your locally stored files and critical business data.  It’s much easier to do this before an upgrade than try to recover files after the event. If you would like any help to backup your data locally or in the cloud do call TechRelate on 03300100201 and check our our packages of support here: https://www.techrelate.co.uk/it-support-packages/.
